Sinopsis 

“El viejo y el mar” cuenta la historia de Santiago, un anciano pescador, que en los últimos tiempos no ha podido pescar ningún pez. Llamado Santiago "EI Campeón" en sus días de esplendor, ahora se le considera "salao", la peor clase de mala suerte. Incluso los padres le han aconsejado a su único aprendiz que se mantenga alejado del anciano. Y entonces llega el día en que se aventura en el mar y libra la batalla más improbable de su vida con [un pez], con todos los horrores que esto conlleva.

“El viejo y el mar” apareció por primera vez en la revista Life, en septiembre de 1952, la que vendió 5 millones de copias en los primeros 2 días. Se publicó en forma de libro el mismo año y ganó el Premio Pulitzer de Ficción en 1953. Se dice que, gracias a su obra maestra del siglo XX, Hemingway recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1954.

The Old Man and The Sea tells the story of Santiago, an aged fisherman, who has been unable to catch any fish lately. Called Santiago “EI Campeon” in his heyday, he is now considered "salao", the worst kind of bad luck. Even his only apprentice has been advised by his parents to stay away from the old man. And then comes the day when he ventures out into the sea and fights the most unlikely battle of his life with it and all the horrors it epitomizes.

The Old Man and The Sea first appeared in Life magazine in September 1952, which sold 5 million copies in the first 2 days. It was published in book form in the same year and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. It is said that owing to his masterpiece of 20th century, Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
